Shipbuilding

Today, the last remaining shipyard on the lower Clyde went into receivership.

Staff at Ferguson Shipbuilders in Port Glasgow turned up to work this morning to learn most of the 77-strong workforce were being made redundant immediately.

Joint administrators from KPMG said the business had gone bust due to a lack of orders and mounting cash flow pressure.

“What shipbuilders, our families and communities need now is certainty. We believe our industry is one of the best examples of why we are better together, because the benefits to being part of the UK are very real. Simply put, the future of Scottish shipbuilding depends on Scotland remaining in the UK.” – Better Together Blog.

The prize is a better country for the people of Scotland. And that’s only 33 days away.
